How to Remove Paint Marker

Accidentally getting paint marker stains on your floors, clothes, or skin can be incredibly frustrating. You may be sick of spending forever removing just one speck of paint from surfaces. This can seriously hinder the creative stuff that you want to focus on

It can be difficult to remove a paint marker stain, but different methods work best depending on the type of surface that the paint pen stain has soaked into.

Below, you can learn more about how to remove paint marker stains from a range of surfaces so that you can continue using paint pens for your artwork.

Skin

Rubbing alcohol and makeup remover is a great solution to remove paint markers from your skin. The isopropyl alcohol contained in rubbing alcohol can get through the toughest stains from permanent marker pens.

However, be cautious when using rubbing alcohol if you have sensitive skin, as it could be irritatable.

Apply either one of the solutions to a cotton ball or soft cotton cloth and wipe the stained area of your skin to remove the paint. The paint should start to come off. You may have to reapply the solution to a new cotton ball if it gets too discoloured.

You can then wipe the area with a soft towel and warm water. This gets rid of the solution and any excess paint.

Stained Cloth – paint marker stain

You may be glad to hear that you don’t have to throw away those paint-stained clothes. Instead, grab some hairspray and spray the stained area. Let it soak into the fabric for a few minutes before wiping it clean.

The hairspray solution should break down paint pen marks which makes it easier to remove paint pen marks.

When it comes to furniture fabric, you can try sprinkling some baking soda onto the marked area. Let it absorb into the fabrics for a few minutes before wiping the area clean. The paint stain should come off along with the baking soda.

Floors – nail polish remover

Skin nail polish solution can be an effective solution to remove regular paint and denatured alcohol paint thinner stains from your carpet. Apply the solution to a cloth and wipe the entire stain. The stain should start to disappear the more you scrub.

You may want to wear protective gloves when using nail polish remover to remove permanent marker paint stains.

You can then use a damp cloth to wipe the area and get rid of any residue before leaving it to dry or putting a hair dryer on the area.

As far as laminated surfaces go, vegetable oil is an effective option that doesn’t damage the floor whilst being effective at eliminating marks. Apply the oil to a clean cloth and wipe the area using circular motions until it begins to vanish.

You can then use a paper towel or a dry cloth to wipe the area clean with a circular motion to prevent a cloudy residue.

Whiteboard – paint marker stains

Paint stains on a whiteboard can be permanent if you don’t know the correct way to get rid of them. Use the dry-erase marker to draw on the paint marker marks and let it soak into the paint. This removes paint marker stains more easily due to how the old stain bonds with the new ink so that you can wipe away even the most stubborn stains.

Conclusion

Knowing which solutions to use for various surfaces when it comes to paint stains is crucial. It can prevent damage and ensure that you can clean the marks away faster. These methods are great for paint thinners, oil-based paint, and regular paint marker spots.

Hopefully, you’re now feeling more confident about how to remove marker stains from paint in your home!
